The holiday season is in full swing and there are as many holiday ideas as there are vacationers. One of them, Eugenio, decided to go on his vacation to Costa Rica with the intention of paying for everything only with Bitcoin. He reported his stay on his Twitter account.
Eduardo is a bitcoiner and cryptocurrency enthusiast. With his action, he wanted to show that the adoption of Bitcoin is not such a distant future. And there is nothing to hide, he succeeded. He spent several days on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. He visited the cities of Uvita, Dominical and Ojochal. In addition to the fact that these places are famous for the possibility of whale watching, they are also very popular among the cryptocurrency community. And again, the place where the Bitcoin Jungle project was created. This project aims to facilitate the adoption of BTC in Costa Rica. It already brings together many sellers who accept the most popular cryptocurrency in the settlement of goods and services. As part of the project, even a map was created that shows where transactions in cryptocurrency are accepted.
As Eugenio says, he used the fiat currency only once when filling the tank of a car at a gas station, and in all other places he paid BTC using the Lightning Network. This is a situation where both parties to the transaction are satisfied. The funds appear on the seller’s account automatically without any additional procedures, payments or intermediation of banks.
As he says, “I wanted to be able to pay for my younger sister’s ice cream when I was at the beach, for example.” In addition to ice cream, he could also pay in a restaurant or for a trip to the market with a guide. “It’s incredibly convenient, Bitcoin is money. You can use it for spending and you can use it for saving, you can do it easily without the fees and hurdles that are built into the old system, plus you can always buy Satoshi (SATS) for the Fiat you intended to use in the first place. “
Eugenio says Costa Rica is taking Bitcoin “organically” and that locals are proud to accept it. It only remains to check for yourself whether this is really a place where we will take a vacation from the traditional currency.
